Point Man is the story of a U.S. Army fire team that is torn apart by racial tensions, moral crises, and the crushing pressures of combat in a war that no one wants to fight. It is set in Vietnam in April 1968, three months after the pivotal Tet Offensive and one month after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Andre “Casper” Allen, a rough-hewn idealist, discovers that Silas Meeks, the squad’s machine gunner, disagrees with him because of his extreme ideas. Both men are pitted against one another and their rebellious platoon leader, Lieutenant Sutter, after their search-and-destroy mission in the Mekong Delta goes horribly wrong. Point soldiers perish in the woods like flies, and as allegiances break down, every advance is costly.
