The former police officer Mr. Thái does not “keep his nose clean.” He patrols the town every day with the three gangs Thu – Ph – Vinh in search of criminals. Hoang, a recently exonerated drug cartel, abruptly relocates there and establishes a real estate business.
Mr. Thái chooses to conduct his research covertly since he believes it to be an absurd enterprise. He purchases the abandoned rice restaurant next to Hoang’s shop to use as a watchtower, and he begs Thu – Ph – Vinh – Mèo, who is financing his enterprise, to release him so he can conduct an investigation. He realizes that “his special plan” is in jeopardy due to the restaurant’s unexpectedly high demand.
